The time we’ve spent at home has been time to consider change.

Our search for responses to alternate living patterns continues. The Great Dispersion of 2020 – which demanded our homes transform to accommodate work, school and leisure – has given us a newfound appreciation the potential of our homes and greater faith in the technologies which enabled it. In 2021, the search for responses to alternate living patterns continues.

That’s if you were fortunate. We can’t, and won’t, ignore the wider housing insecurity and affected groups in the economic fallout of 2020.  As parts of the world are slowly coming back online, for some it will never be the same.

The design of houses and apartments is under scrutiny. The call to re-instate the importance of living, learning and work from home fundamentals has pushed the long-known importance of defined spaces, ceiling heights, access to natural light and amenity into the spotlight. Personalised functionality is paramount, and our home is our headquarters.

At Woods Bagot we’ve long believed in high quality, functional residences and now – with even more conviction around the importance of the home HQ – we have pulled together a collection of stories from our Residential sector.

Find out what automotive manufacturing can teach apartment design, shine a light on the amenity wars of Build to Rent with ERA-co’s Steven Cornwell, meet Short Lane resident Ash, and take a trip around the world with some of our residential leaders as they look at what’s next in their regions.

I hope you share our enthusiasm for the new home HQ as well as the joy of venturing out as we rediscover ‘normal’.

Regards,

Nik Karalis, CEO

Housing delivery is falling further and further behind demand, but is there a solution to be found in the automotive industry? In this piece we look at how customisation might be delivered at scale in apartments of the future.

The long-sought magic sauce for tenant satisfaction and investor profitability might have origins in The Amberly. Take a virtual tour and listen in on a dynamic discussion featuring Woods Bagot Principal Matthew Stephenson and ERA-Co’s global director Steven Cornwell.

We sat down with Ash, one of the residents of Short Lane, to learn more about how she’s been using her home in (and out) of unprecedented times.

Travel through our global studio with some of our residential sector leaders as they make predictions in their local markets and share project inspirations from across our physical borders.
