In the second annual INDE.Awards, the program recognizing architecture within the Asian Pacific region has selected four finalists from two Australian studios, located in Melbourne and Adelaide, out of a total of 400 submissions. The projects are C.F. Row, Elwood House, and the Plenary Group Workplace Fitout from Melbourne, and the Adelaide Convention Center East Building from Adelaide, Australia, and are each in a different category out of the total 13. A 16-person panel of esteem architects and industry leaders from all over the world judged the projects. Winners will be announced in Singapore on Friday 22 June.

The Multi-Residential Building: C.F. Row in Melbourne Located in Melbourne’s fashionable neighborhood, Fitzroy, the 5,000-square-meter site is a residential complex’s contemporary, lightweight aluminum piano nobile is contrasted by the heritage building’s original façade, thus inviting prospective residents to immerse themselves in its bohemian culture while also paying homage to its blue-collar history.
The Multi-Residential Building: Elwood House in Melbourne
The four-story development reflects the local grain and scale of its Melbourne precinct while simultaneously evolving this particular site into a more refined solution for the area. Drawing on the character of the local vernacular, the new multifamily complex, fit with 30 uniquely bespoke apartments, elevates the typically low-scale residential language of the area with a combination of materials and an unconventional brick and mortar exterior.
The Work Space: Plenary Group Workplace Fitout in Melbourne
Part of the regeneration of Melbourne’s famous Rialto Tower, the interior renovation focused on Plenary’s workplace culture and values. Upon arrival, it’s clear that space is welcoming and engaging with natural materials and a lounge area. Formal and informal meeting areas are designed to provide a level of privacy without restricting access to natural light.
The Building: Adelaide Convention East Building in Adelaide
The new construction for the Adelaide Convention Center features moveable parts in its central meeting space to make multiple configurations for different events. These include operable walls, two 300-seat auditorium, and six hinged panels of tiered seating that can be folded down into the floor.
